FAQ: How Much Does An Attorney Cost?

FAQ: How Much Does An Attorney Cost?

By Raleigh + Durham Worker’s Compensation Attorneys at Hyland + Padilla, PLLC

Video Transcription:

I’m Chris Hyland with Hyland and Padilla attorneys. One of the questions that we get about hiring an attorney is: “Do I have to pay the attorney, or what’s it going to cost me to hire an attorney?” Most personal injury in North Carolina works on a contingency fee. What that means is the attorney gets a percentage of whatever your case settles for. Some cases, for whatever reason, if there are things that are discovered later, or a person decides not to go forward with their case, an insurance company may not agree to pay anything on the case. In any circumstance, if the insurance company pays absolutely no money, and there is zero recovery, then the attorney’s fee would be zero. There may be some costs and expenses that are incurred, but they’re usually very minimal. If the case goes forward, then some law firms like Hyland & Padilla will change the attorney’s fee. In some smaller cases, we reduce the fee, but the standard percentage for most personal injury cases can be 33%. Some firms will charge more if it’s a medical malpractice case, some firms will charge more if your case goes to trial. We will not increase the fee if your case goes to trial. If you have any more questions, please give me a call

If you need assistance with your worker’s compensation claim, or the insurance company is denying a claim you feel should be covered, give Hyland + Padilla a call today to discuss your situation with one of our Raleigh + Durham worker’s compensation attorneys.
